Automate data entry from Excel to a website

If a person on your team copies rows from a spreadsheet into a web portal, that work can run by itself. We build the automation around the spreadsheet and the website you already use.

How the automation works

  1. Read the sheet

The automation opens your Excel or Google Sheets file and reads each new row.

  2. Check the row

Missing or malformed values are set aside for a person, before anything is submitted.

  3. Enter it on the website

It logs in to the portal, fills in the form, submits it and waits for the confirmation.

  4. Record and report

Each row is marked done or failed. A summary goes to your inbox.

Example: staking information for a Utah fiber contractor

Each working day, a person read job information from an Excel sheet and submitted staking information to a website. The same person then collected the completed jobs and sent them by email. The task took about one hour a day.

We automated both parts. At five working days a week, that is about 250 hours a year.

Do it yourself, or hire us

Tools such as Microsoft Power Automate can do simple versions of this work. They fit well when the website has a public connector and the data is clean.

Hire a builder when the website has no connector, when it needs a login and several screens, when rows have exceptions, or when a wrong entry costs money. Those are the jobs we take.

Common questions

How do I automate data entry from Excel to a website?

There are three ways. Use a connector tool such as Power Automate if the website supports one. Use the website's API if it has one. If it has neither, use browser automation, which logs in and fills in the form the way a person does. We build all three.

Can you automate a website that has no API?

Yes. Browser automation works with the same screens a person uses. It logs in, goes to the form, enters the data and reads the confirmation.

What happens when a row has bad data?

The automation does not submit it. It sets the row aside, continues with the others, and lists the rejected rows in the report so a person can correct them.

Can it also send the completed jobs by email?

Yes. The same automation can collect completed records and send them to the people who need them, on a schedule or as soon as each job is done.

Does it work with Google Sheets?

Yes. It works with Excel files, Google Sheets and CSV exports.
